Bearboat Pinot Noir 2007 and 2009

Long before I knew my fiancé he took a 2 semester wine appreciation class in college.  [Clearly, we are meant to be together] He said he use to get out of his tasting class, pick up a bottle at his local wine shop, throw on the Frank Sinatra Capitol Years Collection, and play online poker.  Of course I was fascinated by his urbanity and polish since he was only in undergrad, and I was even more impressed when he told me that he picked up the same bottle every week; Bearboat Pinot Noir. I thought this a very sophisticated choice, and an interesting pairing with Sinatra, as I would choose a louder, bolder, Italian red with Frank. Due to sentimentality and the fact that it’s a fantastic Pinot, we habitually have the Bearboat Pinot Noir [drinking 2007 right now] in our wine bar rack. The bears on the label are absolutely endearing, and their conversations will vary within each vintage. The bottle we just enjoyed had one of my favourite exchanges: Bear 1 says, “This Pinot has hints of cassis and warm toast.” Bear 2 answers “I suddenly crave breakfast”.
Brilliant clear ruby colour, perfect for a
Pinot Noir.
Brilliant ruby in colour, after decanting for about 30 minutes it flourished with delicate aromas of violet, cherry blossom and strawberry. The medium body was filled with smooth raspberry and soft black cherry flavours. Warm cinnamon and spicy black pepper notes comprised the pleasantly acidic, crisp, moderate finish. It’s a smooth, well-balanced, confident bottle with just a touch of swagger that allows it to hold its own with Sinatra.

UPDATE 03.03.13
Bearboat Pinot Noir 2009

Delightfully similar to the 2007 vintage, with a new series of witty conversation between the bears. Cherry red in colour, after aerating aromas of violet, cherry and sweet oak radiated from the glass. Bright cherry and raspberry flavours were joined by sweet vanilla notes and silky smooth tannins in the medium body. Pink peppercorn and traces of smoky oak comprised the pleasant finish. Easy drinking, this is a sleek and charming glass fantastic on its own or at the table.
