The Show Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

About two years ago I became a fan of The Show Cabernet Sauvignon. I think it was the 2007, but since it was before I started keeping track of my bottles, I can’t be positive. Then it seemed to have disappeared off the shelves in my local wine shops. As I delight in keeping my favourite budget friendly yummy wines stocked at all times in my wine bar rack, I was disappointed. And then, out of nowhere, it was back in the big warehouse wine store. The label was relatively the same, [the labels are based off the original very fun Hatch country music posters, that advertised such greats as Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline] it just appeared to be of lesser quality; the paper seemed to be a little second-rate. The price was about the same, so I decided to give The Show Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 a whirl.
The deep ruby colour in my glass was alluring, the fragrance of dark fruit laced with tobacco was inviting. The medium body was brimming with jammy flavours that were rounded out by dried black cherry notes. Pink peppercorns and oaky goodness garnished the medium finish.  I was slightly displeased that the spice trailed off at the end so that the closing was a bit of that “hot” alcohol taste. However, as I made my way thru my brown rice and West Indian spiced tempeh, the bottle opened up pushing flavours of blackberry and black currant to the forefront. The peppery spice and sociable tannins took back their finish, and I am again a fan of The Show.
