Perrin Réserve Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2009

I love Rhône wines.  While they can be on the pricey side, there are always quite a few less expensive Rhône options, and I do enjoy the adventure of searching for the proverbial gem in the wine haystack. So I decided to give it a go and picked up a bottle of Perrin Réserve Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2009.
The colour was a gorgeous ruby and I was disappointed that there wasn’t a complimentary fragrance. The taste of raspberries was immediate, then a little bit of black pepper spiciness. The finish was a bit tannic, but pleasant enough and warming. I wanted to find it to be a tolerable attempt at a medium body Rhône, but it was just a bit on the thin side and a little too rough. Even with the additional blackberry flavours as it opened, it was still a mediocre glass. I vacuumed sealed the rest and assigned it to “hockey nalgene bottle” status for the next night’s game; where the warming finish would come in handy sitting in the cold rink watching my fiancé play.
